The house where Gaetano Donizetti was born is a 5-story building dating back tomedieval times. The Donizettis lived in the basement. Purchased by the City of Bergamo in 1925, in 1926 the building was declared a National Monument because it was “of historical interest.” On the occasion of the first centenary of Donizetti’s death (1948), and then in 1973, the basement was restored and opened to the public. In 2007, restoration work was initiated by the City of Bergamo, leading to its full opening in 2009 and management entrustment to the Donizetti Theater Foundation. The tour includes access to the various rooms of historical interest in the building in such a way as to restore an overview of the life of the Bergamo composer with hints of the events related to his master Mayr and the theater.
SOUND IMPRESSES
A sound journey through Donizetti’s life.
Impronte Sonore is a sonic journey into the past, into the voices and noises in the days and places of little Gaetano Donizetti. By means of binaural microphone recording, an immersive holophonic narrative has been created, capable of evoking the everyday life of a humble nineteenth-century family and immersing the listener in three-dimensional sound settings. Impronte Sonore, thanks to its distinctiveness from a traditional audio guide, accompanies the user not by sight, but by hearing. The application makes it possible to customize the route and time of the visit. The visitor can thus freely navigate through the contents of the three floors of the birth house, respectively “The House Where He Was Born,” “The Pupil and the Master,” and “The Donizetti Theater.”
