JAZZ IN TOWN.

For some time now, Bergamo Jazz has been entering small theaters and museums to offer valuable musical performances, often considered by the Italian and foreign press to be among the Festival’s most artistically stimulating offerings. Opening the series of concerts scattered around the city will be, on Thursday, March 21, at the Teatro Sant’Andrea in Via Porta Dipinta (5 p.m.), a veteran of jazz piano, American Dave Burrell, repository of a tradition that is constantly renewed between his fingers. The same venue for the concert on Sunday 24 (11 a.m.) will feature saxophonist Emanuele Cisi and pianist Salvatore Bonafede, a duo that aims for the essence of an expressive language that is intimate but at the same time highly communicative. The Auditorium in Freedom Square will also host two events: on Friday 22 (5 p.m.) with the duo formed by Moor Mother and Dudù Kouate, in a dialogue between experimentation and ancestrality; on Saturday 23 (also 5 p.m.) with the project “Songs of Love and Exile” by Albanian-born singer Elina Duni and British guitarist Rob Luft. Also on the 23rd, but at the Carrara Academy and at 11 a.m., is another concert bridging different sounds: it will feature French-Syrian flutist and vocalist Naïssam Jalal together with transalpine double bassist Claude Tchamitchian. Making the female presence at Bergamo Jazz 2024 even more nourished and qualified will be, on Sunday 24 in Sala Piatti (3 p.m.), double bassist Federica Michisanti, a multiple award-winner in Musica Jazz’s Top Jazz 2023 as best musician of the year and for best record, as well as leader of her own group. Her French Quartet will feature the distinguished presence of French clarinetist Louis Sclavis.
