Two female musicians and composers are at the center of an improvisation and extemporaneous composition project: a fluctuating interaction between violin, accordion, voices, and live looping that traverses baroque and folk sonorities, meeting contemporary jazz and moving from lyrical moments to full-fledged dances. Sara Calvanelli and Virginia Sutera have individually collaborated with artists of international caliber, with a special focus on the dialogue between music and visual arts and theater. As a duo, they have released their first album – Ejadira – produced by the Norwegian label Losen Records. Their concerts are always different and changing depending on the space that hosts them and the moment: a continuous improvisational flow in which spectators will find themselves immersed from the first instant, a dimension at times meditative and suspended, at times playful and dancing. Ranging from ancient songs to experimentation, from free improvisation to composition for theater, dance, and image, Sara Calvanelli has always sought a personal and feminine dimension to the accordion. She has performed concerts and performances in over ten countries worldwide and numerous collaborations with international artists, without distinction of genre, origin, and language. Also interested in the encounter between music and other arts, Virginia Sutera graduated from the Milan Conservatory with a thesis dedicated to improvisation, deepening the figure of the English composer Cornelius Cardew in the work of The Great Learning. She created the Tuscany Music Revolution project and formed artistic partnerships with, among others, pianists Alberto Braida and Ermanno Novali.
